Dotti’s Re-KAP of the BET Award Show 2011

Dotti’s Re-KAP of the BET Award Show 2011

Dallas, TX - June 26, 2011

BET hosted its annual Award Show to crown the who’s who of the African American music industry. The hilarious Kevin Hart did what he does best and kept the show interesting and full of humor. Jill Scott showed her artist creativity by adding a little drama to her imaginative stage set up, with guest actor Idris Elba. The Five Heartbeats were in full effect. Rick Ross seemed to find his way on everyone’s performance and even Wiz Kahlifa took home an award. It was a strong come back by Alicia Keys. Although it was not an official category, the most disappointing performance and wardrobe award goes to Chris Brown, but overall it was a good show. Respect and Honor goes to Steve Harvey and Patti Labelle for their service and life achievements.

Is it me or does it seem like hip hop is about to take a turn for the better? As I listen to the artist and production this year, I am hearing more musicianship and talent on the table. Of course there are a lot of bad apples in the bunch but that is the beauty of the art form. I am hoping that the next batch of artist who began to influence the culture began to embrace history and build for the future.
